In your chatbox on the top right click on the button 'chatoptions'. Then
choose the option: edit own
profile. Now you see on the left a blank window.
This is your profile edit window, here you can type the text and
codes that you want to have in your profile. After all the
changes you have made you have to save your profile. You can do
this with the save button
below your edit window. Don't forget to make your profile public
at the first time.
Remark: Above mentioned way top edit your profile is not the only one. While
working on your profile you will find more ways to do that. Just use the one you
like the most.
The size of the font used at your profile can be adjusted by using <h1> t/m
<h6> codes. The code <h1> will produce a very large font while the
code <h6> is the smallest. The font size <h5> is the best one to use
in your profile.
When you want to use your own defined size you have to change the font size by
using the following code: <a style="font-size:200">. The number 200 can be
changed in whatever number you want. Just try it out...
This were only the very basic codes you can use to change the appearance of your text. For more sophisticated code's, like adding images, music and more, see the appropriate chapter. You will find them at the left of your screen in the menu. SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!
After typing some text or adding an image ... actually after each change of
your profile ... you have to save the profile. The save button can be
found at the bottom of your screen (you only see that button while editing the
profile, after saving it will disappear). When you have clicked the save button
you will return to the screen you were viewing before you started editing your
profile. Click on the button search user, to open the search window and type your
chat name followed by enter to
find your profile. Your chat name will be
displayed in the list and to view your own profile, just click on your name
and ... there it is.
IMPORTANT: do not forget to select the checkbox public
before saving to make your profile visible. When not checked your profile will
not be displayed...
It is possible to edit your profile without being noticed by others in 121chat while you are busy with changing your profile. Very handy when you not want to be disturbed. How??? Just log on at the chat room, but no not select your chat id. Now you are actually inside 121chat without being in a room. To find you profile and be able to change it, just click the button search user and start working by clicking the button edit. How to save and view your profile after you are done, is exactly the same as described in the section above.
A handy tip for the one's who just started with their profile... When you
have to type a very long code it will be useful to copy it, and paste it into
your profile. How to handle that? Just drag you mouse pointer over the text
(code) you want to copy with the left mouse
button to select it. The selected text (code) will be
displayed with a dark background now. Right
click the selected text (code) and choose for copy
in the displayed menu. Now the selected text (code) is stored into the memory of
your computer for the time being. Go to your profile (when not done yet click edit,
and right click on the location
were you want the previous selected text (code ) to be. Choose the option paste
in the displayed menu. And there it is!!!
A big advantage of using copy and paste is that you can't forget to type any
signs or codes. It is very important that you do not forget anything, to make
something work in your profile!
It is very easy to check someone's else his/her profile to see what kind of codes or images he/she used. To do that you can use the function view source of your browser. Just right click on the profile (make sure you are not clicking on a picture) and select view source from the displayed menu. When using Netscape select view frame source. You will get a notepad file which will display all the codes inside the profile.
What you will see seems confusing, but when you take a closer look you will recognize some familiar things. The actual code is present between the following codes: <FONT SIZE=-2 FACE="ARIAL"> and <TABLE BORDER=0 CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0>. All codes before and after are generated by 121chat ... you can not change or use that.
You think you did everything right and still ... it is not working. The following mistakes can be made:
When seeing something like this in your profile:

A "[" instead of "<"
in front of your code. This normally happens when you put an enter
somewhere in your code by accident. You can find out what's really wrong
by checking your profile while using the view
source function of your browser (described in the section above).
Find the wrong code in the displayed file and you will probably see a <br>
included in the code. For example:

While editing your profile you will not see the <br>, the code for enter.
To solve the problem you have to remove the enter.
To remove the enter you have to position the cursor (we use now the above
mentioned example to explain) in front of width
, press backspace to actually
remove the enter and when necessary
add a space. When you did
everything right the code will work now.
An other very common mistake is a typing error (using our tip about copy and
paste will prevent that), or something in your code is deleted by mistake. All (
, " and spaces
are important, so you should work accurate. The mistake we see very often
is made by adding images with the wrong code <img
scr= instead of <img src=.
You can use the Profile Studio to generate the codes for your profile. You don't have to type complicated codes, but you can add them by making a selection out of all kind of different possibilities. Background, colors, picture, you name it. With one click you can have the necessary code and a preview about how it will look at your profile. Using the studio you can generate very quickly codes for backgrounds, border, font, music and images. When you are satisfied with the result you can copy and paste the generated code in your profile. You even can use the Profile Studio to generate the codes for a message in the message board. At the left menu you will find the link to the Profile Studio.
We recommend to secure your profile once in a while. It could happen that you delete some codes in your profile by mistake or you want to undo certain changes.
You can secure your profile to copy the contents of it to a text file on your computer and save it there. This is how to proceed:
When you need to restore your profile or just want to use a deleted code, you can open this file and copy it completely or a part of it, back to your profile.
We advice you to save your profile this way on a frequent basis. It could spare a lot of work!!!
Some other safety tips: choose a password which is difficult to guess, NOT
your chat name, NOT your given name, NOT your day of birth
and NOT the name of your pet. There ARE chatters who WILL
misuse your ID and the previous mentioned examples are the first ones they try.
Do not think they do not know these things. During a chat you will tell a lot
and they are listening too. Use a password with a combination of characters and
numbers.
You can change your password if you have the feeling someone knows it by edit
your profile and click on the button more. Do not forget to save
afterwards.
It is possible to link a "second profile" at your profile in the chat room. I did it in mine. This one can by much bigger and more special things can be done.
My second profile is actually a small part of my website, some kind of web page so to say. It will we loaded into my profile by clicking the hyperlink. Here the possibilities are endless. A lot of them are done with JAVA and JAVA-script. This is NOT allowed in your real profile!! Only what is described in this help-site is allowed. The remaining codes and programs are blocked by 121chat administrators, to prevent abuse of the chat room.
This help-site is designed by me to help you to make a nice, funny, beautiful, scary, personal profile at 121chat etc. When you want to build a homepage to extend you profile, I can not help you. You can check at the assistance page if some people are available for helping you with that and contact them by e-mail. You can search on internet, if other help is available.
